Baby Shower Decoration: How to organise and decorate a baby shower

In this section we’re bringing you one of the most fashionable parties for future mums and dads. An American tradition that’s popping up in many other countries. We’ll explain what a baby shower is and how to organise one. And, above all, how to decorate a baby shower. Give your baby the best welcome party ever!

What is a baby shower?

A baby shower is a party to celebrate the arrival of a new baby. It’s a tradition that comes from the United States, although the tradition of experienced mothers coming together to provide help and useful advice to new mothers has been around for centuries.

Basically, a baby shower is a party for the mother of the baby, organised by her friends or family. So, it has been a traditionally feminine event. But dads and friends are getting involved in these events more and more, and both parents are now organising parties to celebrate their pregnancy with their closest friends.

Normally these take place in the last trimester of the pregnancy and mums and dads are gifted useful things, while everyone enjoys some delicious sweets and plays games. Although this tradition can vary depending on where you are.

How do you organise a baby shower?

There are various things to keep in mind when it comes to organizing a baby shower.

  • Making and sending invitations: The first thing you need to do is invite the friends and family you want to attend. You could design some cute and easy invitations with the date, time and place of the event. And of course, someone will need to be in charge of getting these to the guests.
  • Preparing food and drinks: Normally these kinds of parties take place in the afternoon, so be sure to have something sweet. Cupcakes, pastries, sweets, and a cake of course. To drink you could provide water, soft drinks, hot drinks, etc. Present it all on some nice tableware, using similar colours that match the decoration you’re going to choose next. Plates, cups, tablecloths, napkins… Everything can be matching. At Funidelia we have everything you ‘ll need, as well as a few extras, like a cupcake stand or toppers for cakes or cupcakes.
  • Play games with the guests: Playing games with your guests is something that’s quite often done at baby showers. The theme is totally up to you, although it normally has something to do with pregnancy. For example, some common games include guessing the size of the mothers’ belly, seeing who can drink a bottle the fastest, or hosting a quiz with a pregnancy or babies theme.

Lastly, although we haven’t talked about it yet, the baby shower decorations are very important. It should be fun but simple, and we’ve got loads of options. So many that we’ve dedicated a separate section just to talk about baby shower decorations.

Decorations for a baby shower

You’ll be sure to have fun when preparing the baby shower decorations.  Decoration is one of THE most important things, and here at Funidelia we’ve got a wide selection of decorations for baby showers. We’ve got everything you’ll need to celebrate your party in style. Let’s go through this step by step, making sure to savour each moment as we go. This is everything you’ll need:

  • Choose the colour scheme: The first thing to do is decide what colours you want for the party. You could opt for the typical colours, depending on the sex of the baby: pink for a girl and blue for a boy. But if this isn’t for you, why not look for decorations in a combination of colours, go for something neutral like white, purple, yellow… In any case, we’ve got all the decorations and tableware you’ll need for a baby shower.

    • Decorate with balloons: Hang different types of balloons up with fun messages like “It’s a Girl” or “It’s a Boy”, or something more neutral like “Baby Shower” if you don’t want to reveal the gender yet. You could also get some “Boy or Girl” balloons in pink and blue. Another good option, if the pregnancy is in the final stages and you’ve already decided on the name, is to hang up foil balloons with the baby’s name on.

    • Decorate the table: As well as the plates, cups and tablecloth we’ve already mentioned, we can also add some decorative touches to the table. Some examples include a baby shower cake topper, centre pieces in the shape of a bottle, table decorations or coloured dummies.

    • Hang garlands: Don’t forget to hang some garlands to decorate your party. There are loads of options to choose from. From more neutral garlands that match the colour scheme of the shower, to garlands that are more specific. Pick a garland with the words “BABY SHOWER” written in large letters, some metallic hanging banners, or some hanging “It’s a Girl” or “It’s a Boy” decorations.

    • Make gifts for the guests: Although we know the guests will give gifts to the future parents, it’s nice to have something little to give to the guests, even if it’s just a small token to remember the party by. Just for this, you can get some beautiful gift boxes. You could go with some neutral polka dot boxes, or something more unique, like pram-shaped gift boxes.

    • Complete your décor with some beautiful decorative ornaments: Add the finishing touch to your baby shower decoration by hanging some extra decorative ornaments. Like stickers or (something we love) a unique hanging guest book where guests can sign, leaving a lovely message for the baby to come.

Gender Reveal Parties

A new kind of baby shower that is becoming increasingly popular. The idea is to organise a party, on behalf of the parents, to reveal the sex of the baby. The guests won’t know anything until they arrive at the house or venue.

The organisation and decoration are similar to what we’ve seen previously, although it’s focused much more towards the sex of the baby. Or not- you could also create a neutral atmosphere so you won’t discover the sex until the end, maybe finding out via a treasure hunt. There are lots of options!

It’s a… baby!
