Freddy Krueger dress up tutorial: costume and makeup

Inspiration

To create a full-on Freddy Krueger costume, we drew inspiration from the classic ‘Nightmare on Elm Street.’ This included makeup, some other accessories, and the mask. Whether you’re a man or a woman, we have the perfect costume for you. Don’t you dare fall asleep, because we’ll enter your dreams to dress you up this Halloween – and there’s nothing you can do to avoid it!

How to Get the Look

👻 The Makeup

As you may now, the most frightening feature of Freddy is his burn skin and wounds. In this video tutorial, Sara G explains how to get that broken skin effect with latex – However, we too detail each step on how to do it easily.

  • Step 1: Apply liquid latex onto your face skin, wherever you want to simulate your wounds in.
  • Step 2: Let dry the area with cold air to fasten the process until it is completely clear in your skin.
  • Step 3: Repeat the two previous steps so it can be more consistent and apply some loose powder as well.
  • Step 4: Cover the area with makeup, so it has the same tone as your skin.

  • Step 5: The transformation begins! Raise the latex slowly with a brush, doing some circular shapes.
  • Step 6: Apply some red makeup, paint the interior of the wound, and the edges with some garnet.
  • Step 7: Accentuate the cheekbones and jaw with a dark blush and a dark shadow.
  • Step 8: For a slimy touch, apply some Vaseline.

Most products are easily findable at home. Maybe liquid latex is the least common among all. You can also apply these burnt-face prostheses, which come in handy for this character.

Disguise the rest naturally with eyeliner and Rimmel or just however you do it regularly. Now you’ll only be missing some details like the costume or props and you’ll be ready to ‘haunt’ everyone.

👻 The Costume

This is one of the easiest costumes. You can dress up as the original Nightmare on Elm Street, which appears on the video above, or you can make your own homemade Freddy Krueger costume. You’ll need a red and greenish striped jersey (you may look for a sweater with black stripes as well) and some scissors to shred the fabrics. Finally, you can mix them with some socks or cowboy jeans.

Were you wondering about the Freddy Krueger costume for women? Of course we have that! And it includes a t-shirt, a glove, a hat, and a mask. You can also create a homemade t-shirt and mix it separately with the props. Also, you can add an extra touch with a stuffed animal to make it even more spooky.

👻 The Accessories

This character is so unique because of his hat, burns and… the hand! Freddy Krueger’s claws are surely his distinguishing mark.

Without these accessories, our beloved serial killer wouldn’t be as scary. Also, if you put a lot of effort into the t-shirt and the torn dress and the makeup, you’ll only need these elements so your costume is perfect.

The Key Touch

A special custom for a special cause. In case you didn’t know, Johnny Deep is one of the teen protagonists, victims of Freddy. And, as we sadly can’t have the 80’s Johnny Deep as our escort during our costume parties, we propose the perfect alternative: A tub of coffee ice cream, so you don’t pass out and avoid horrible things happening to you – Isn’t that original?

Let the Party Begins

If you’re a fan of the film, you can decorate your Halloween party inspired in this topic – or different horror movies! With this Nightmare on Elm Street decoration, your windows will be spooky, and all the house will turn into a nightmare if any friend of yours decides to sleep on the couch that night.
